"My mom was a nurse. I know what to look out for." He sets the comb aside, aware now that he's just grooming Bunny for the sake of having something to do with his hands, and turns to just cuddling him. "I'll let you know if there's something that needs to be addressed. Just don't nothing need to be addressed right now."

He pets Bunny's cheek and takes a deep breath. "I just want to hold off having to have these conversations as long as possible. I ain't looking forward to becoming just someone you worry about or who's a liability, and that'll happen eventually, and I just...don't want to start that so early."

He knows Bunny thinks it's better than the alternative, but it doesn't feel that way to Dan. He doesn't want to think about it. He worries if they start digging into it there will be some shift in their relationship and they'll start that new stage he's so scared of right now.
