"Lo siento." Dan needs to just stop asking people who work at the mines how their days have been. It seems like a grueling place to work, just joyless and stressful and tedious. He's been here for months and no one has ever said I had a nice day at work to him about any place of employment here, but the mines and the slaughterhouse tend to get groans or curtness.
Dan watches the blinking screen and the little helicopter; he's never seen one in person before, and he wants to touch it but knows better. The whole thing is a little mystical to him. He feels like he's watching something magic, not technological.
"Yeah, me and Aster ran into the woods and...how's your suspension of disbelief? Because you ain't going to want to believe me, but I swear on my sister's grave that I'm telling the truth."
He doesn't know if anyone else in his family is alive or dead, so Kitty will have to do, and he feels like he just hoisted her memory out of his mouth to make that oath, but he doesn't know what else he can swear on.
