Dan laughs; if they hadn't gotten to know each other before, he's sure he would sound just like any other homeless person with schizophrenia, rambling about ghosts and monsters and conspiracies.

But he's serious, and he hopes Miguel can continue to retain his open-mindedness. Miguel trusted him once with his truck and his living space. Now he's asking Miguel to trust him with his understanding of what's possible and what's real, which is a much taller ask.

"Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. And if it turns out I'm crazy and this is a normal forest and the drone ain't picking up nothing, I got enough money to buy you a soda for your trouble."
