Perhaps his most frustrating quality were those glimpses of being reachable before he shuts himself off. For now, at least, Miguel was receptive. He could blame the emotional vulnerability on the season, how much he and Dan turned out to share in common, or all the work that was done to crack that door open at all in this entire conversation. But it was a lot of consideration he'd put off.

"You're certainly something." he says, lighter and a little less gloomy. "Even if I don't agree with all of it."

There is a little room for unexpected things from unexpected sources. That was also part of the dimension-hopping.
