Brigid thumps her Chronicle onto the table, and winces as the sound echoes. She has so much to do, and no doubt back home Rune is waiting for more translations to come his way - if that's even possible? She doesn't know.

Sighing, she goes looking for the Ogham dictionary she's been using while here. Unable to find it, she frowns. "Now where did that thing go?" She mutters to herself, wandering through the stacks, looking for it. Finding it in the hands of a man, she cocks her head to the side, walking up behind him.

"Your translation is wrong." She says, looking at the page. She smiles. "Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude. I'm Brigid Finn." She says, offering her hand.

Warnings/Notes: to be updated as Laios makes the kind of first impressions it takes weeks to recover from.

Laios goes from a strange beach to an equally strange snow-covered mountain. Fortunately he's back in his armor again; it's not much against the cold, but it's better than being barefoot wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. The snow is densely packed under his boots but it's waist deep to either side, which means that it's probably even deeper if a tallman wearing plate went forging through it.

But he doesn't have to forge through it because the snow is packed around the grandest mansion that Laios has ever seen. It looms over him, the windows glowing warm and steady as ribbons of shifting colors ripple through the sky overhead. It almost looks like it's growing out of the mountain itself, except it's clearly made of wood instead of stone or ice.

Already shivering, Laios kneels down to inspect the packed snow. It looks like it's been trampled by many feet, bare feet, too large to belong to a tallman, bigger than any feet he's ever seen before. Some kind of giant maybe? They must be resistant to cold if they're barefoot in this weather.

"Blargha blagh blagh!"

Laios jerks his attention up from the ground and sees that a door to the grand mansion has opened and someone, backlit against the light is waving at him. He can't see much, but they appear to be wearing an enormous fur coat -- sensible. Laios pushes himself up and waves back, and the person at the door forges their way toward him. It's only as they get closer that Laios realizes that they're at least as tall as he is, if not taller, and that they are absolutely not human.

Laios lurches back a step, one hand still raised as the other reflexively goes to his hip where it fumbles with nothing but air. Whatever stole him in his sleep and dressed him in his armor before dropping him here didn't see fit to bring Kensuke along. Laios raises that hand as well and raises his voice.

"Hey there! Hi! I am not a--"

He ducks as the unfamiliar demi-human or beast-man flings the thing in its arms at him. Luckily, it turns out that the thing in question is a blanket. Laios is too cold and befuddled to do anything but allow himself to be wrapped up in the blanket and then pushed toward the mansion.

"...Okay? Okay! I guess we're going inside, thank you!"

Moments later, the door is shut behind him and Laios is being eyeballed by not only the magnificently-moustached creature who brought him in, but by many of its fellows besides. One of them has a bat. Laios isn't sure they need it.

"Um," he says, staring back at them in the hopes that they share a language other than not dying in the snow. "Hello?"

"You have got to be kidding me."

The last thing he remembers is the nightmarish sight of the Lunatic Magician summoning all those dragons, and the terrifying thought that had passed through his mind:

They're going to get Marcille too. And no one will ever find us down here.

Then the ice dragon had loomed up before him and he'd felt its icy breath suddenly blast at him, the frost burning his skin and eating even deeper into his flesh. His blood had run cold and then slowed and stopped running at all.

He's alive again but the cold is even worse now. He'd landed in a snow drift and his already chilled limbs - just barely revived - are already starting to go numb thanks to the cold of the storm around him. It's a rare summer storm today at the Pole. The sky is clouded over, the wind has picked up, and the snow has been falling in freakish amounts. And it's pure powder, Chilchuck could cast off every single thing weighting himself down and not be able to walk on top.

Quickly standing up, he can only just barely see over the snow drifts. If he weren't tall for a half-foot, he'd likely only be able to see the snow around him. Those extra few inches save his life. In one direction: a cliff he might have accidentally wandered off. In another, the grandest mansion he's ever seen in his life, built into another cliff. There's firelight shining through every window.

Eyes wide he looks around for walls, for any sign at all he's still in the dungeon. He calls out the names of his companions, but there's no response. He hugs his arms to himself, not just because he's freezing.

"Am I dead? I better not be dead." If this is some kind of weird purgatorial struggle towards paradise, he's going to ditch and go haunt Laios (if Laois survived the dragons, that is) for convincing him to follow him into this whole mess.

He casts off his pack to be lighter on his feet. It's as he quickly puts on his cold weather gear (not that it's warm enough to do much against this nightmarish chill) and wraps the blanket of his futon around himself in desperation, that he sees, of all things (of all things!) there's a stoat in the snow next to his body. Just...randomly there. In the snow. If it weren't shivering he'd worry that he'd killed it by landing on it or something.

He almost leaves it.

"Probably a monster in disguise," he mutters. "If you take it with you, it'll try to eat your face for all you know. You've got other things to worry about."

He tries to walk away but something clutches at his heart and some strange instinct makes him turn back to look at it. It looks strangely stunned. As if something beyond the cold has put it into a state of shock. And it also looks a little pathetic. Maybe he did land on it after all. He tells himself he's not going to let a sense of guilt over possibly squishing it make him risk taking it along. He's not going to do it, absolutely not -

The half-conscious stoat lets out a forlorn little squeak.

He sighs, and grumbling, he squats down and take it into his his hands, briefly letting go of the blanket.

"I can't carry you; you're going to have to hold on on your own," he says, putting it up near his neck, hoping his scarf can help hold it close. (And also hoping it doesn't rip his throat out.) The stoat wraps around his neck on instinct, clinging but not strangling him, hiding in his scarf for warmth. Then clutching the blanket at his throat again, Chilchuck starts his desperate scramble towards survival.

If he were the size of a tallman, it would have been different. A difficult push through waist-high snow drifts, certainly. But he'd have been able to make his way close enough. Yetis on watch would've seen him and come out to greet him with even warmer blankets and snow globed him inside. But he's short enough to not be seen, especially as the wind tosses powder to and fro. His strides are half that of a tallman, so it's twice the distance. And pushing through snow drifts nearly as tall as you are is far more exhausting than doing it against ones that reach your waist.

And worse: wetter. He's soaked through before long, the snow clinging to his clothes and skin, melting because of his body heat until he's soaked. He sweats too much from the effort, too, and before long, his breath comes hard, his legs burn, his teeth chatter. His body shivers so hard, it makes his legs feel like his bones have been replaced by slime. He stumbles over and over, having to flatten the snow in front of him to make any progress at all.

And the whole time, the cold steals into his already chilled limbs. His blood runs cold again and his heart clenches up. Even as he stumbles a last time and can't get back to his feet, he starts crawling on his belly, flattening snow with his arms as he shoves himself along, crawling.

Half-foots usually run hot but he'd already started off a little chilled. And being smaller meant it was easier to lose body heat faster. After what seems like an eternity of trying to crawl, his shaking arms eventually collapse under him. One last kick helps him look over the snow to see...the building is still impossibly far.

He has nothing left and he collapses face down in the snow. Then rolls over on his back.

Annnd that's when the sun comes out. Of course. Of course the sun comes out now, when he can't feel it.

You should've just retired. You should've turned Laios down and retired early but you had to take one last job, didn't you. You could've earned the rest of the money for the shop some other way on the surface, it just would've taken longer.

There'd always been a chance before. That maybe someday he could fix things with his family. After what Marcille said, he thought maybe it'd be worth a try. But that chance is gone.

"Was it worth it?" He hears a woman's voice and knows he has to be hallucinating because it seems to come from right near his ear but no one is there.

He'd never see them again. Whether this was some test of the afterlife he'd just failed, to fade away into nothing, or his final, real death because the dungeon hurled him somewhere miserable, he'd never see them again.

He's quiet for a while, just breathing and he suddenly understands a moment he'd misunderstood before.

"The sorbet was good though."

He feels ice on his cheeks. He tells himself it's just sweat and snow from the storm.

He finally feels the stoat nip his chin so hard it draws blood, its final act seemingly to hurt him as a thank you for his attempt at rescue. Somehow, it feels appropriate.

"You're an idiot, you know that?" the unknown woman says.

"Tell me something I don't know." His body is still, all movement has stopped, all the shivering and shaking and chattering of teeth, and he's falling asleep.

[Little Cato hangs back from the Memorial, hiding in some rafters on the Pole side and watching it through the door. He wants to pay his respects but...]

[He's also the reason a few myths didn't walk out of that facility. Even if they tried to kill him he doesn't want to face anyone that might look like they're grieving them.]

[Beyond that, he stays away from people at first. He knows that he's possibly safe now. He's had this happen before - being freed from imprisonment and losing the only person he knew. Being trapped in a place with strangers. The last time that happened, it worked out about as well as it possibly could. He found a crew, people willing to fight against the Lord Commander and the monsters he was allied with. He met good people like Quinn, Nightfall, HUE, and Mooncake.]

[He met his second dad. Who loves him. Who was willing to be shot at to try to convince him to stay, and was willing to walk into hell for him in Invictus' lair. And - unlike, Avocato, who claimed the same thing, and did the same thing - who hasn't failed him the way his other father has.]

[But it feels awfully lucky to have had the same thing happen twice. Imprisonment, cruel treatment, being rescued, being surrounded by good people. They reassured him over the comms, and it almost took, but his life hasn't been easy, and recently, his trust has been broken. Before, he might have taken it at face value, thanks to the rescue.]

[Now? Now he knows that even the man who raised him could lie to his face. For his entire life.]

[Still, even though it feels dangerous to stay, he knows it's not safe to leave. Not with Prometheus out there. So he waits and he watches, hiding in crawlspaces and crawling through the rafters. Sneaking through rooms to grab food or useful things and scampering away when someone looks in his direction. He's waiting to see if someone chases him, tries to capture or hurt him. He's watching how the group treats each other and any myths brought there to heal.]

[Basically, he needs to figure out the vibes. Vibes are important. The group at least passes his passive vibe-checks, seemingly being kind to each other, helping heal the injured, rescued myths, and sending them home. But he still needs more than that. So he decides the situation needs some active vibe-checking, too. If he vibe-checks people and they still don't react really strongly, if they show patience, maybe it means they're okay.]

[So he starts a series of slightly annoying behavior. Some people will see a grubby paw reach over the edge of a table and steal food off their plate or knock over their glass. Others might have something small and mostly unimportant stolen to see how they react. (He'll leave it out for them to find later.)]

[Each time, he scurries off to hide in the interconnected crawlspaces that can be found in some places or might hide in darkness of the rafters nearby to see what the person will do. They'll at least be able to see the eyeshine of two eyes. He might even talk back for a while, depending on what they say. For any that are the types to hide in crawlspaces or hang out in the rafters, they might get the jump on him but he won't hurt them, maybe just back away and hiss at them in surprise. The situation might need to be defused.]

[In some cases, he takes the vibe-checking to it's inevitable conclusion. After seeing the Elves testing out certain toys, he steals one. From the rafters or the shadows, they'll hear him call out:]

Vibe-check! Checkin' the vibes!

[And then high-velocity NERF balls will come pelting at them. How they react to that will definitely tell him about their vibes.]

A Warm Welcome

Warnings/Notes: Imprisonment, guards being assholes, child endangerment, some other CWs will be added as needed.

Unfortunately not everyone gets a warm welcome to the Guardians' universe. Project Prometheus, a secret human organization dedicated to studying, controlling, and destroying myths, manages to ambush a few of the new myths. Their capture is quick, quiet, and almost impossible to fight due to the magical dust they use to knock them out.

And then they're stuck in a nightmare of metal and concrete walls, a sterile secret base where the Promethean agents do their sinister work. In some rooms of the base there are magical artifacts, safely locked away, studied to figure out new methods to fight myths and to destroy magic. In others, sinister experiments are done on captured myths.

These two have been lucky so far. They're being merely kept imprisoned for now, for containment and future study. Buuuut they've become a bit of a problem.

And the guards have decided the best way to deal with several problems is to cram them together and hope they're problems to each other. That way they're a little too distracted to keep up their shenanigans.

The bands around their necks, inscribed with mystical marks, block any of the powers they may have gained upon being changed into myths. They'll have dampened Hellboy's natural strength. Their hands are in shackles, magically reinforced so Hellboy can't break them. The shackles have chains that are attached to a strange floating metallic orb overhead. It moves along at a quick pace, almost too fast for walking speed. No amount of pulling can slow down its progress. It drags them along, leading them through the halls towards their inexorable end point.

Three armed guards usher them along.

"You two wanted to be problems? Then you're going to get treated like problems. So you're going to where we put one of our other problems and I promise you, you're not going to like it."

Another guard sneers. "You're both going to get a new roomie. The Beast is a real friendly little guy." He nods to another guard with bandages all over his face. "You can just ask my buddy over there."

The orb stops before a heavy prison door.

The first guards goes on, "After what it did to the Fomori and grindylows we threw in there, you'll have yourselves a bit of a handful."

The guards step back and a metal wall shoots out of the floor creating a sort of airlock for the prison they're about to enter. Hellboy and Bones will be there for a minute or two as the guards finish the digital prisoner transfer checklist.

Fun way to meet a new person, right?

What Trancends Death... [Closed]

If there's one thing Puss has learned in his 9 lives as a hero, it's that evil strikes quickly and without warning. Except now Puss knows about these things as quickly as they happen, thanks to all of the North Pole's innovations, and that's just as good as a warning to Puss.

It happened all at once: A small child, a boy of no more than 8 years old, was apparently drawn into the thick forest by one of Kuk's many minions and vanished into the night. For Puss, this is a simple rescue, almost routine. His dark vision and sense of smell should be more than enough to guide him into the depths of the abandoned mine and free the boy with no trouble.

...But he probably has a lot more than that considering he's on this mission with the most dedicated over-planner he knows.

"What do you think? In and out before breakfast is served?"

It might not come through what Puss's sure-footed cockiness, but he has to admit Branch is a good partner to have on this mission. After all, he's been a prey species all his life, something that's only happened to Puss once...ever. Branch knows what signs indicate a large predator has been through the area and that's basically what they're tracking. No reason to think this isn't going to go smoothly.

Stacia's plan for confronting Miguel is pretty fluid: corner him, be firm, and logically explain to him that he's a fucking dumbass who should know better. Usually when she's doing this kind of thing, it's with another Garou, and she's allowed -- nay, sometimes even encouraged! -- to smack them upside the head and antagonize them into a full-on Frenzy. But she can't do that here. So it'll be a fun and interesting personal challenge on top of it all. Keep a level head, ask extremely pointed questions, deploy a armor-piercing "do you need a hug" as needed.

She's certainly going to be able to do a better job at this than Elle is at the moment.

Usually when Stacia enters Miguel's Spider-Cave, she steps inside and looks around to see if she can't spot Miguel or Catalina. This time, she doesn't break stride, heading straight for Miguel's (extremely nerdy) chalkboard. She's got a good idea how to summon him out of the darkness right quick:

"Hey Miguel, your math is wrong! Don't worry, I'll fix it!"
