[Open to All] A Kemonogami Arrives to the Pole
Who: Garurumon and You!
What: Garurumon is frustrated and badly disguising that maybe, just maybe, going into Santa's Workshop is an appealing idea.
Where: Outside Santa's Workshop / Sleigh Room
When: December -- in the offtime after the most recent event
Warnings/Notes: None
By now it probably is routine to notice there's one teammate more in the Pole. Sometimes they're sociable and try to get along with others, sometimes they're a tad more reclusive and unfriendly.
Garurumon definitely is tilting more towards the latter, so of course, the best move to do at a time like this is force him to accept he's here to stay and nothing will change that.
Let's hassle a Kemonogami.
A: It's All Sinking In
He probably went unnoticed at first. Truthfully, Garurumon was a little bit dazed during his introduction to everything. He had gone through the effort of isolating himself to have a good, long thought about everything going on, and before he had even gotten settled there was a shift of everything and he found himself in the human world. No doubt it was the human world! But then the moon told him a bunch of stuff that, truthfully, slipped into one ear and went out of the other -- mostly because as soon as he heard the children of this world needed him Garurumon began wondering what kind of messed up practical joke this was. No matter how much he protested, he got an understanding of the situation, met Jack, was covered by the charm to avoid detection by the evil forces, and throughout all this Garurumon, a tad stunned by the whirlwind of events and still trying to digest that somehow this was all happening for real, kept mumbling vague agreements and only voicing objections when it was too late.
And so he found himself at the Pole, outside Santa's Workshop. Quite the interesting structure! And pretty inviting. Garurumon isn't bothered in the slightest by the cold, his fur and toughness making him not even flinch a little by this all. For a while this wolf creature stares at the building, silent...
...and then, from deep within, comes a growl, heightening in intensity gradually, until Garurumon stomps with one of his front paws onto the snow, snarling and finally managing to vent his frustration a littl, shouting loudly:
"I didn't ask for any of this!"
It's not like Garurumon is the best at taking decisions; before being dragged into this world he had landed himself into a world of trouble and he wasn't sure if he regretted it or not...but this new problem and tremendously heavy situation wasn't his fault in the slightest! How annoying!
B: May As Well Do The Bare Minimum
"...this seems like a good enough place."
Garurumon knew he had no choice but to stick around. Either he stayed, or he could go on his own and die from being attacked by some evil force, and although in the Kemonogami world he had just beginning to find out how being pursued was like, that didn't mean he wanted to experience that here too, especially since he knew next to nothing about the extent of Kuk and his forces' power. Resigned, Garurumon went to the Sleigh Room, deciding thanks to its size and general loneliness it was a somewhat alright place to claim as his own. A room, warm and nice? Weeeeeell that'd involve being near the rest here. A bunch of individuals and entities he doesn't know, and is in no hurry to get acquainted with, not trusting them at all. Better to endure the discomfort of the sleigh room.
Kind of reminded him of his nest at home, really. Thousands of years of living in structures like this one, isolated and on his own. But somehow that didn't make it any more comfortable. And as usual, thanks to the fact he comes from what's partly a visual novel, Garurumon talked to himself a little, loud enough for anyone nearby to hear him. He doesn't expect visit, so he doesn't consider talking aloud could get someone's attention.
"Dammit. Now what? Is this some kind of punishment? Did I get tossed into some messed up mind torture or what?" Some kind of illusion, while in reality he's captive and on the verge of being killed, perhaps? Garurumon shakes his head, before lying it on his front paws.
"Hah, no matter what it's not like I got options. I'll have to play along all this, won't I?"
He's silent for a moment.
"Human kids wanting me to protect them? They must be crazy."
If those kids knew at all what Garurumon and other Kemonogami had been trying to do they would have been wise and decided to ask for someone else's help, not his! And, true, Garurumon hadn't gone to try to sacrifice any kids, but it's not like his attempts to thoroughly defeat their monster partners was harmless or small potatoes -- defeating the monsters would leave said kids defenseless in a hostile world, after all. Not that he had cared. Garurumon is a creature driven by bitterness and an intense jealousy, and until very recently he thought he was solidly on that path of callous enmity.
Really, what kind of protector do these human kids think he is? He's no protector, he'd sooner leave them to dry, he tells himself. Them and everyone in this workshop. Who cares about the world, who cares about his own world. His own motivations to do anything had started to shake on its foundations, and before he could even put his thoughts in order he got shunted into this all.
...humans, they really have a way of messing up his life something fierce.

She begins to approach. Her walk is a little unsteady, and the snow certainly isn't helping, but she manages to keep her balance.
The way she's holding herself right now is more wolf than cat.
This being is clearly sentient, and they're definitely canine-adjacent, so she figures it's a safe bet. She keeps herself low and non-threatening-- not quite submissive, but definitely letting him take the lead.
Elle wishes she could speak in this form. Shifting with a new person is always a risk, but communication is difficult in feline. Even with the magic translator, Kheuar is barely a verbal "language".

Just tossed into this all and expected to figure it all somehow, and he's not even sure if he's talking to someone he should or if he's now chatting with a feral animal in middle of wherever this is -- one that's amused. Great. Sure! Why not? Garurumon can't say he expected much after the way everything happened so sudden. At least it's pretty obvious this one he just encountered isn't trying to get him to lower his guard and leave himself open to attack, so it's all fine.
Garurumon turns his head towards the workshop.
"First time in the human world. It's so...lively already. Not a bunch of ruins. Kinda nice, gotta admit that much." He does take a hesitant step towards the workshop, groaning under his breath, which of course is going to be heard by Elle. Sharp hearing and what not! "I'm not looking forward to them at all. I was in middle of trying to stay away from humans and their partners and now it's like I gotta go and face them. What a joke."
Well, more like he had purposefully isolated himself to avoid seeing a specific human, but generally he doesn't trust them. Not that long ago he was saying there was no value in protecting humans, mostly out of bitterness than because he truly thinks that, and then decided he needed time alone to get his thoughts in order...and probably never encounter them again if he could help it. Garurumon always had a bit of a cowardly streak.
He takes another step towards the workshop.
"You, tell me something. That leg of yours, did anyone in there do that to you?"
Should he expect someone in there to see a pretty big wolf monster and immediately react by trying to break his legs, he ponders.

But then he asks a question, and that one's going to need a verbal answer. She can respect his caution, she has an abundance of it herself, and anything she can do to reassure him is for the best.
She shifts up to Homid. Luckily, she's bundled up in a warm winter coat, but she still shivers from the cold.
"No, this was something else. In fact, the beings inside have helped it heal cleanly."
Hopefully that's enough to dissuade his concerns.
"And we've got plenty of non-humans in there. Putting the Yetis and Elves aside, I'm pretty sure we far outnumber any normal humans, and the ones that are in there aren't threats."
Elle's again wracked with shivers and looks to the door.
"Do you mind moving this inside? We can go somewhere private, if you'd prefer, or I can just leave you alone entirely."
no subject
What Elle says does dissuade his concerns, at least enough to be a tad less wary about entering the workshop.
"Weird. You'd think in the human world it'd be the other way around."
Normal humans are outnumbered, huh. Overpowering a normal, unarmed human would be a cakewalk, if one dared to try to attack him. Overpowering humans with tricks up their sleeves, though...that's bound to be harder. Garurumon has decided: he's not going to relax around here, not for a while.
Being asked if he'd rather to be left alone is very, very tempting. A big part of him does think that'd be a great idea, to leave him to his own devices because how sudden everything was makes him be in a grouchy mood. Par for the course, really, he's like this a lot these days. But also...this isn't his world, the situation has become all weird and strange, and he's not going to find out a thing by himself. As much as he'd like to be left alone, he's forced to accept that's not a smart option right now. May as well talk to someone who seems willing to do so.
"Yeah...sure, let's talk inside. Not like I'm going to ask you to stick out here and get frostbite just for a chat."
It's glaringly obvious he's very, very wary of Elle, but sometimes you just have to mingle with someone you don't trust!

Elle moves inside, grateful for his accommodation. She'll go first, never quite letting him out of her line of sight, but leaving herself relatively vulnerable. He seems pretty wound up and she wants to make it clear that she's not a threat, nor is she treating him as one.
"That's much better, thanks," she says as she begins to warm up properly. "Would you prefer to talk in a public space or a private one?"
no subject
Well that's an incentive to try to stay away from human population. He has way too many things to deal with and think about. Garurumon's guess is that nothing good can come from humans seeing him, and truthfully, a lot of times they'd be justified in thinking that. Kemonogami and humanity's relationship is a little...bitter since millenia.
Garurumon groans. "Look, if I could get away with it I'd insist in talking out in middle of the snow away from everything because I'm in no mood to see a whole lot of people asking questions about who I am and all that. Keep me hidden, won't you."
Like it's Elle's responsibility to keep him unnoticed until he has gotten over the shock of everything, Garurumon implying he's going to follow her wherever she thinks it's going to be private enough. In a way, he's trying to get Elle to lead the way...because at the least that way he can keep an eye on her. Following someone means they're in your field of vision all the time. He can sense Elle is being cautious -- reasonably so, so he tries to turn that around so he's the one who can be at some sort of advantage in case things turn pear-shaped all of a sudden.
